Dublin residents reveal the main local issues facing the city ahead of the council elections

Dublin Live took to the streets of the city centre to find out about the issues that you'll have on your mind when you go to vote in the local elections on Friday.

We did pick up a bit of apathy and a lack of trust in politicians, with flower seller Beatrice Donovan saying she stops opening the door as soon as the posters go up outside.

It’s clear though that Dubliners care deeply about the things that are important to them.

Housing is the big one – PhD student Katie revealed that she spends over half of her income on rent, while fellow student Jack Callaghan wondered if he’d be able to move out of home in the next “five or six years”.

The environment is also a concern. Student Jack brought up plastic pollution, while retail worker Serena Murphy was worried about what the new BusConnects corridor will mean for the trees in her home area, Donnybrook.

Meanwhile management consultant Ali Curran had plenty on her mind, from arts and culture to quality of life, green space, planning and the social mix in Dublin 8.
