Dublin residents joke but stupid thief chalks house marking sign so obvious it's frightening

Northside locals have taken to social media to have a laugh about one of Dublin's most stupid thief wannabes.

But, hidden among the chuckles is the concern for residents' safety because of the marking that is so blatantly obvious and direct, it's extremely worrying.

One footpath in an area of Drumcondra was chalked with the slang words "rob dis gaff l8r" [rob this house later] with an arrow pointing to one of the homes in the area.

Many found the mysterious and "cryptic" code funny but locals are worried that these thieves are hiding in plain sight such is their confidence and cockiness of being able to target and terrorise homeowners successfully.

Jibes of "that’s super cryptic. Hope there’s a code cracker on here", "what could it possibly mean?" and "maybe it’s directions for Rob to attend a house party later" were fired around when the picture emerged on social media.

But, others were more worried believing that the brazen thugs in the area think they are that invincible that they can afford to be this crystal clear with a marking.

One said: "This is not funny at all. Hope everyone is safe.

Another added: "Funny or not, this needs to be reported to Gardai."

A third said: "Very suspicious activity, that's why I have cameras all over my home."
