Dublin pubs: Wetherspoons to open third bar in city centre just in time for Christmas

Wetherspoons is set to open a third pub in Dublin’s city centre just in time for Christmas.

Currently, The Silver Penny operates on Lower Abbey Street and Keavan’s Port Hotel on Camden Street.

And now, The South Strand will open in Hanover Quay, on December 7 and will create over 100 new jobs.

Dan Foster, Wetherspoons area manager for the Republic of Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be opening another pub in Dublin city centre, in the immensely popular Grand Canal Dock district.

“The Silver Penny and, more recently, Keavan’s Port have both been welcome and great additions to the city’s social scene – and we are confident that The South Stand will prove to be the same.”

The company spent almost €4 million developing the former HQ Gastro Bar and Nutbutter at the heart of the Grand Canal Dock district.

The latest Wetherspoons will contain a ground-floor and basement area and an extensive pavement café-style seating area overlooking the former docks and Grand Canal.

The pub will open from 8:00am until 11:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am until 12:30am on Friday and Saturday and 8:00am until 11:00pm on Sunday.

Food will be served throughout the day, from opening until 11:00pm, every day.

The new pub will specialise in real ales, as well as craft and world beers, serving a wide range of different draught ales, as well as bottled beers.

It will be open for family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, welcome in the pub up until 9:00pm during the week.

The pub has step-free access and a specially adapted accessible and ambulant toilet for customers with disabilities.
