Dublin pubs to broadcast Ryan Tubridy and agent's appearance before Public Accounts Committee

Several pubs across Dublin are set to broadcast Ryan Tubridy and agent Noel Kelly's appearance before the Public Accounts Committee this week.

Mr Tubridy and Mr Kelly will be questioned by members of the Oireachtas on Tuesday at 11am. It comes after Tubridy and Kelly both offered "to help" the Oireachtas Media Committee with their inquiries into RTE's non-disclosure of payments, following the now infamous undeclared €345,000 of additional payments to Mr Tubridy between 2017 to 2022.

A Licensed Vintners Association spokesman told the Irish Mirror: “We do expect several pubs in Dublin will be showing the Oireachtas Committee meetings.”

It comes as RTE's Director of Strategy Rory Coveney announced his departure from the station on Sunday.

Mr Coveney announced his decision to quit as Kevin Bakhurst takes up his role as the station’s new Director General today. Mr Coveney said: “I met with Kevin over the past few days and told him I believed the tough job ahead of him would be made somewhat easier if he had a fresh lead-team.

“I’ve tendered my resignation immediately to give him the space to do that. Having worked with Kevin before, I’ve absolute faith in him. He’s the right person to rebuild the national broadcaster. I wish him the very best.”

Mr Bakhurst said Mr Coveney had made a significant contribution to public service media during his time in RTE. Mr Coveney, a brother of Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney, joined the broadcaster in 2007.

He came under fire last at the Oireachtas Media Committee last Wednesday over his role in Toy Show The Musical. The stage show was a commercial flop and made a loss of €2,203,231.

Mr Coveney told the committee the show was financed “from RTE funds” and they took a “creative” risk with it.

He added: “It clearly wasn’t a commercial success but it wasn’t from a lack of effort from everyone involved.”
