Dublin pubs reopening: Popular bar 'inundated with 1,000 bookings' ahead of Monday

One popular Dublin pub has been "inundated with 1,000 bookings" ahead of reopening on Monday.

And rightly so, considering Peadar Browns was one of the first pubs in the capital to make the decision to shut its doors before anyone else.

Aidan Brown of the Clanbrassil Street haunt took the decision to close the pub on March 13 and has been hit with 1,000 online requests from punters looking for a pint since revealing the news that they would reopen this week.

He told The Irish Daily Mail that the first seven days of next week are fully booked and despite the influx of requested bookings, only 36 people are allowed into the pub at one time.

He said: "We’re being literally inundated with booking requests on Facebook – well over 1,000 to date.

"My wife is busy responding to them, but unfortunately, we can only fit in so many customers at a time.

"Unlike other pubs, we’re not charging a deposit and are prioritising our regulars who have been supporting us for years.

"We were the first pub in Ireland to close because of the coronavirus and really got behind supporting our frontline staff during the peak of the pandemic."

He continued: "A few of the other pubs were laughing at us at the start, but eventually, they all followed suit.

"We even managed to raise about €15,000 for St James’s Hospital and are expecting many nurses from the hospital to pop in throughout the first few days."

He also spoke about the preparation being put into the pub ahead of Monday's deadline date.

He added: "At the moment we’re sanding floors, painting walls and trying to make enough space to ensure that the punters can maintain a one-metre distance from one another

"It’ll be just the two of us here at the start, but our full-time and part-time barmen will hopefully be back in a month or two".

"We have always served pizzas here and they cost €9 anyway so it worked out grand, but what pubs need from the Government is a break on our rates."
