Some promising news on the Dublin drinking scene this morning as it has emerged that a 124-year-old pub will reopen its doors this week teaming up with a local pizza company to serve food.
The Brook pub in the scenic seaside location of Portrane announced the brilliant news on their Facebook page after what they've described as a "very tough six months" in the darkness.
The watering hole, which was first opened in 1896, will reopen its doors for its second coming on Thursday September 10 buddying up with Dough Box, local suppliers of delicious wood fired pizzas.
The pub added: "We're looking forward to seeing some old faces again and hopefully some new ones too.
"Come down for some delicious pizzas and a few pints."
This comes alongside more encouraging news that all pubs in Dublin could reopen as early as next week – but only if rising cases of Covid-19 stabilise or fall.
Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn held out hope that the longest lockdown of bars in Europe could end within weeks.
However, he warned rising outbreaks in Dublin and Limerick in particular will be crucial to the decision after revealing 102 new cases – 56 of them in the capital.
Dr Glynn was asked about a mid-September date for “wet” pubs – those which do not serve food – to reopen.
He said: “I think it is possible but we need to monitor the disease very closely, if things stay stable yeah we can see.”
Last night Tanaiste Leo Varadkar stressed no reopening date has been agreed by the Government who will act on the advice of NPHET.
