Dublin City Council announced today that 22 public buildings across the city will be opened on a "toilets only" basis.
The notice is welcome news for city dwellers who have been left frustrated at the lack of facilities available to the public.
Councillors and members of the public have been calling on the council to provide more access to toilets in recent weeks as restrictions continue to ease and more people are out and about.
Until now, only six public toilets were being operated by Dublin City Council.
The facilities are located at Grafton Street, Wolfe Tone Square, St Patrick's Park Tearooms, Herbert Park Tearooms, St Anne's Park Tearooms and the Bull Wall, Dollymount.
People have also been availing of the facilities at Stephen's Green, which close at 8pm sharp, and at the Jervis centre.
The council said today that 22 public buildings, including City Hall, 13 libraries and 8 sports facilities, will now be made available for members of the public to access for use of toilets.
City Hall and the sporting facilities will be open 7 days a week from Monday, April 26.
The following week, from May 6, public toilets in libraries will open six days a week.
The public are being urged to continue adhering to public health guidelines when using the amenities, and queuing, social distancing and cleaning regimes will be put in place.
