Dublin priest Father Michael Guckian, 81, killed in hit-and-run in Roscommon described as 'lovely man'

Tributes have been paid to an elderly priest who died in a hit-and-run on Saturday night.

Retired priest, Father Michael Guckian, was visiting Keadue in Co Roscommon when he was hit by a car at 11pm.

The 81-year-old subsequently died at the scene.

The driver failed to stay at the scene but a 20-year-old man later presented himself to gardai at Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station.

Gardai are now investigating the tragic incident and carried out a full forensic and technical examination of the scene yesterday morning.

Fr Guckian lived with the Oblate Order in Inchicore, Dublin.

A spokesman for the Order confirmed to Dublin Live that Fr Guckian had died, describing him as a "lovely man".

Gardai in Boyle are currently investigating the incident and have asked witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Garda Station on 071 966 4620, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
