Dubliners are the most likely bunch in Ireland to give up booze in a bid to save money before payday, a new survey has revealed.
With January feeling like one of the longest months of the year, many Irish people haven’t seen a paycheck in five weeks.
Along with tightening the purse strings, people have had to make some major sacrifices to make it until the next payday.
Majority of Dubliners surveyed said they would most likely give up drink and even go as far as renting out a room on AirBnB to make some extra cash.
And once they get paid, most Dubs are likely to book a summer holiday to cure the January blues.
Graham Ross of Lottoland in Ireland said: “Let’s be honest, Januarys tend to lose their novelty pretty quickly but with this one being particularly long, we at Lottoland decided to dive into the misery by asking Irish adults what sacrifices they were making this year to get to the promised land of February and what they plan on splashing the cash on when that long awaited pay cheque does finally land.
“It was no surprise that cutting out the socialising and prioritising household bills came out top but as ever, it was the generational attitudes that raised the eyebrows!
"And for us, it was reassuring that Irish people are still dreaming bigger & looking forward to the €130million EuroMillions Superdraw in early February!”
