Dublin people and businesses urged to join World's Big Sleepout event this winter

The World's Big Sleepout is calling on people and businesses across Dublin to join them in a global movement to tackle homelessness this winter.

The Irish capital will be one of 50 major cities sleeping out throughout the world with Trafalgar Square, Times Square, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Delhi, Edinburgh, Madrid, Miami and Manilla all hosting events.

The sleep out will take place on Saturday 7 December with the aim of raising around €50 million.

Already 2,500 people are expected to camp out at Trinity College joining in unison with 50,000 people across the globe.

The World's Big Sleepout hopes to create the world's largest display of solidarity and support for those experiencing homelessness and displacement.

The event will include a concert with some of Ireland's most popular musicians and a special guest reciting a 'bedtime story'.

David Carroll Chief Executive of Depaul, the cross-border homelessness charity, said: “Depaul is privileged to be the partner of The Big Sleep Out in Dublin and Belfast.

"We would encourage companies and organisations from across Ireland to sign up and join us in bringing the world’s attention to the growing issue of homelessness.

"We are delighted to work with Trinity College Dublin who have afforded us the venue for Ireland’s sleep out and in the coming weeks, we look forward to announcing who will join us.”

People and businesses can register now at www.bigsleepout.com or by emailing ian.fallon@bigsleepout.com.
