Dublin pensioner found murdered in inner city home to be laid to rest today

An elderly woman who was found murdered at her inner city home will be laid to rest today.

Mary (Maura) Bergin, who was in her 70s, was found dead at her house on First Avenue off Seville Place in the north inner city at around 11.50am on April 12.

And funeral details have been announced for the Dubliner who was a beloved member of her community.

A funeral mass will take place this morning at 10am at St. Laurence O’Toole Church in North Wall followed by a burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Co Cavan.

The notice on RIP.ie reads: "The death has occurred of BERGIN, Mary (Maura) née McCabe suddenly, 13th April, 2022. Predeceased by her parents, Alex & Bridget, sister Kathleen, brother Seamus and brother-in-law Jim. Mary will be deeply missed by her loving husband Liam, her children, her treasured grandchildren and daughter-in-law.

"Mary will be sadly missed by her dear siblings Johnny and wife Mary, Patsy and wife Mary, Jude and wife Patricia, Michael and wife Patricia, Rita, Vera and husband Hugh, Geraldine and husband Billy, Bernard, Sarah and husband Noel, nieces and nephews, a large extended family, a circle of close friends and lifelong neighbours in the Seville Place community where Mary proudly carried out her duties as Sacristan at St. Laurence O’Toole Church and where she will be greatly missed."
