Dublin mum shares genius hack to eliminate pesky fruit flies from home

A Dublin mum has shared a genius but simple home hack that eliminates fruit flies from your home.

The pesky pests have been spotted across Irish homes throughout the warmer months - even when there's no fruit about.

Sharing a picture to social media, she showed dozens of the creatures trapped in a mug.

Tina Smith said: "Anybody else getting these horrible little things? I don't have fruit and I'm getting them, disguting."

The trick? A tea cup, cling-film and some apple cider vinegar.

Tina filled the teacups with the apple-cider vinegar and placed cling-film over the top.

She then poked holes big enough for the tiny flies to get through in the layer of film.

The flies that are attracted to the sweetness can't stay away. They soon fly through the holes and are instantly trapped in the sticky vinegar.

And it seems she's not alone as hundreds of people took to comment that they've been having the fame experience.

The mum of one said that "within the first half hour" she caught over twenty of the bugs in a chat with RSVP Live.

And she added that it only took a few hours before they were gone from her home completely.

That's one trick we'll definitely be trying out!
