A north Dublin mother has spoken of her anger and hurt after her son was allegedly attacked by a bullying gang of as many as ten youngsters while he was on his way home from GAA training.
The worried mum took to a local forum to ask for help as to what to do in order to try and prevent future attacks on her pre-teen boy.
She said that the gang called her son names and threw items at him before pushing him and trying to attack him while he was with other friends.
Luckily, an adult was passing the area at the time and managed to intervene and stop the nasty group before things took an even more serious turn.
The mum said: "I just wanted to share this with you all and ask for help and advice please.
"My son got bullied and physically attacked today by a group of 10 children around the same age as himself - he is 12.
"He was with his friends coming from his GAA training and these kids started attacking him, calling him names and throwing stuff at his face and body as well as pushing and attacking him.
"This is so sad that children are doing this to other children while in gangs. Thank god there was some lady there who told the children that were hurting my son to go away."
The mother explained how her son had been bullied years ago and even recognised some of his attackers who approached him.
She continued: "It's very upsetting. He's OK and I'm just grateful that he is okay and not a bully back, he has an amazing heart.
"He was bullied years ago in school and had a very hard time and today he thought that he could recognised two of the people who had made his life hell before."
She added: "The way the world is at the moment is very sad.
"Instead of embracing the love, fun and friendship, it is sad to see children from such a young age looking for fights and hate, it breaks my heart."
