Dublin mum €13,000 out of pocket as gym equipment company 'goes bust'

It is feared a gym supply company has gone bust leaving customers thousands of euro out of pocket.

Thammy Gough, 23, has yet to receive €13,000 worth of equipment for her gym just nine days before it opens in Baldoyle, North Dublin.

She is one of many fitness fanatics who’ve paid upwards of €1,000 for goods but have yet to receive anything.

The mum of one admitted: “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

The company that received the payment, Celtic Series, is run by Alan Fitzpatrick, from Navan, Co Meath.

The 41-year-old is well known by fitness fanatics around Ireland as he’s involved in running CrossFit events.

He is currently listed as a director of Celtic Series, which was set up last February and is based at Blackcastle Demesne, Slane Road.

He is also named as a director of a company called Silent Fitness, which is also based in Navan at the same address and was registered last July.

Thammy told the Irish Mirror she received a message on Monday saying they had gone “completely broke” and might not be able to fulfil her order.

She said: “My gym is opening in nine days, it’s a new CrossFit gym and I’ve put a lot of money into it.

“Last Saturday I went to check in and looked him up to see when it was all going to be delivered. His Facebook was deleted, the Celtic Series page was deleted, he was nowhere to be found.

“I managed to get a contact for him and he apologised for the delay and lack of contact and that my equipment would be there for Monday, October 1st.

“My gym is opening on 29th but I didn’t complain. Then on Monday I got an email from him saying his business failed and he’s had to close his gym and might be going into liquidation.”

Michael O’Toole of Bray Rowing Club told the Irish Mirror how they paid €3,180 for machines that haven’t arrived.

He described it as a “kick in the teeth”.

It’s understood at least six others also have concerns they’ve lost their money.

The message sent to both Michael and Thammy described a “desperate situation” with Mr Fitzpatrick saying he had fallen “way behind” and “exhausted all possible financial support.

It also said he was trying to sell Celtic Series but that if he doesn’t manage to do that he will “have no option but to liquidate the company”.

Mr Fitzpatrick and Celtic Series were contacted for comment.
