Dublin, Meath and Louth raids see €720k of drugs seized and 3 men arrested

Drugs worth around €720k have been found following raids on premises and vehicles in Dublin, Meath and Louth.

The raids targeting organised crime took place yesterday and saw vehicles in Ashbourne and West Dublin searched, while four addresses in Dublin, Meath and Louth were raided.

During the searched, 36kg of cannabis worth around €720,000 was found along with €22,000 in cash.

Three men are being held at Ashbourne and Ronanstown garda stations, and the find has been credited to "ongoing positive working relationships" between gardai, Revenue and partner agencies.

A garda spokesman said: "On 25/02/2021, as part of an investigation targeting serious organised criminal activity, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) assisted by Revenue Customs and the Garda Dog Unit stopped and searched four vehicles in Ashbourne and West Dublin. Four addresses in Dublin, Meath and Louth were also searched.

"36kg of Cannabis (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €720,000 was seized along with €22,000 in cash.

"Three males, two aged in their 30s and one 40s, have been arrested and are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Ashbourne and Ronanstown Garda Stations."

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, head of Organised and Serious Crime, said: "The seizure today of a significant quantity of illicit drugs and the arrest of three suspects demonstrates the value of ongoing positive working relationships forged by An Garda Síochána with partner agencies, in Ireland, with the Revenue Customs Service. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to tackle organised crime that impacts negatively on communities”.
