Dublin man wins €50,000 on Christmas scratch card before family reveals cold truth

A young Irish man was given the gift of a lifetime on Christmas morning after he won €50,000 on a scratch card - or so it seemed.

Dublin man Wes King scratched at the winning lottery ticket surrounded by his close family who met last Friday.

His sister was given Wes in the family Kris Kringle and gave the golden ticket to him along with a number of other gifts.

Quickly, his eyes began to gleam as he spotted the matching numbers on the card before asking for reassurance from a family member behind him to make sure his eyes were not deceiving him.

Sporting a new Lidl branded t-shirt, Wes leaped from his seat with excitement and began to repeat loudly to his family, "I'm after winning 50 grand!"

But all was not as it seemed.

After a few short minutes of teasing, giggling and leg pulling from those gathered around, his sister asked Wes to flip the card around and read the fine print.

An excited Wes was too giddy to worry about the small details so his sister kindly read out loud from the card.

"All other prizes... can never be exchanged for prizes or cash unless being paid from your own money," She said.

The ticket was a fake but Wes couldn't accept the truth until his sister snapped, "Weso, it's a fake scratch card!"

The room filled with laughter while Wes held his head in his hands in shock. It finally sunk in.

What a rollercoaster of emotions.

The video ends there but we're sure the shock in Weso's face stayed a little while longer.
