Dublin man 'two seconds from certain death' after alleged early morning stolen truck hit and run

A frightened Dublin man said that he was "two seconds from certain death" after being allegedly hit by a truck in west Dublin on Friday morning.

The man was driving in his van with two of his co-workers when the truck allegedly turned the corner on the wrong side of the road and smashed into the front driver's side of the van.

The Dubliner said that if the incident had taken place a couple of seconds later, the stolen vehicle would have hit the side of the van, almost certainly killing all three occupants.

The driver of the van added that he suspected that the truck had been stolen from a nearby area.

He told Dublin Live: "I was driving up the road and was about 100 metres from a corner when this truck came around on the wrong side of the road and hit into us.

"There was nothing that I could have done to stop it from happening. We were about two seconds from certain death. If we had taken the corner, the truck would have hit the side of the van and flipped it over."

The driver of the van said that the truck was doing about 50 miles per hour at the time of impact.

He continued: "When the truck hit us, it dragged us about 40 metres down the road from where the actual collision happened.

"Thankfully, my two passengers and I are okay. We got scans done and got put in a neck brace just for precautionary reasons but we have no major injuries."

The Dubliner added that the driver of the truck is alleged to have abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene following the collision.

He stated that the incident was reported to Gardai but a spokeswoman for Gardai told Dublin Live that they had no record of the incident as of yet.
