Dublin man accused of Lough Erne Resort 'altercation' appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with a number of offences in relation to an altercation at the Lough Erne Resort in Co Fermanagh in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

Daniel Comerford, 34, with an address of Mac Uillaim Heights in Jobstown, Dublin, was charged with affray, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. At the appearance at Omagh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Comerford spoke only to confirm he understood the charges against him, and a police constable said they could connect him to the charges.

Representing the accused, solicitor John Finucane said the defence was not in a position to make a bail application and asked for a later court date. District Judge Bernie Kelly granted the request and Comerford will appear before court again this Friday 18 November.

The charges arise after an incident at the five star hotel in Co Fermanagh last weekend, in which six people were injured following reports of a ‘large altercation’ at the venue, where a political conference had been taking place. Police were called to the hotel on the outskirts of Enniskillen on Sunday afternoon, with four people being taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
