Dublin Lotto player leaves it late to claim €250,000 prize

A Dublin Lotto player was in no rush to collect their Lotto Plus 2 top prize which was worth a whopping quarter of a million euros and only had days left before it expired.

The winner, who opted to keep their win private, purchased the winning quick normal play ticket on Monday, November 14 at the Maxol service station, Ringsend Road, Dublin 4.

The winning numbers of the Lotto Plus 2 draw were then called on Saturday, November 19, with the lucky person scooping the €250,000 prize, surprisingly however, they didn’t come forward immediately to collect their prize.

Following months of no contact, the National Lottery encouraged Dublin players to check their tickets to ensure that they do not miss out on this extraordinary prize.

"We are very eager to hear from this particular winner and to pay this life-changing prize," a spokesperson for the National Lottery said when they announced the 10-day notice.

The winning Dublin player did not break a sweat and was quite relaxed as he claimed his prize just days before the deadline.

In a statement, via the National Lottery, the winner said: “I knew all along that I’d won but I just wanted a little bit of time to let it sink in.

“I threw the ticket in a bedside drawer and left it there for a couple of months while I thought about how I might spend it.

“Then I started reading and hearing urgent calls being made by the National Lottery asking Dublin players to check their tickets. I thought I better ring this crowd soon as they seem to be worrying.”

When asked about how he might spend his winnings, the winner replied, “Well I’ve had time to think about it and I plan to spend every penny and enjoy it, but I’m not telling you how!”.
