Dublin locals warned after scammers go door to door asking for money for fake fun run

The residents of a northside area have been warned after scammers have been making rounds asking for money for a fake fun run.

A number of youths have been reportedly going around asking for donations for a "fun run for Donabate Portrane Community Centre".

However, the community centre said that there is no such event planned.

More recently, locals in Ashton Broc and Millers Glen in Swords were warned to be alert after the group was spotted asking for money in the area.

The Donabate Portrane Community and Leisure Centre said on Facebook: "WE ARE NOT DOING ANY FUN RUN.

"It has been brought to our attention that some youths are going door to door saying they are doing a FUN RUN for Donabate Portrane Community Centre this is not true

"WE ARE NOT DOING ANY FUN RUN. Be aware. Contact gardai if they call. Thank you."

A garda spokesman said: "An Garda Síochána would always advise the public to be vigilant when confronted by cold callers at your home collecting money or offering services."
