Dublin is the sixth most traffic congested city in Europe, new survey shows

Dublin has been named as the 14th most congested city in the world and the sixth worse in Europe.

According to the TomTom Traffic Index, Ireland’s capital has one of the worst traffic problems in Europe.

In a survey done across 403 cities and 56 countries, Dublin is the worst in Ireland.

While Dublin is in the top 20 worldwide, Cork comes in at 72nd and Limerick at 117th.

The aim of this report is to find ways to reduce traffic congestion, car emissions delays to and from businesses.

It is estimated that the current traffic situation in Dublin costs €350m each year and if not tackled, it will rise to €2b by 2033.

Dublin rose on the Index by 1% from last year where it was placed at 15th.

Last year Dublin had a 44% congestion level which has risen to 45%.

Heiko Schilling, head of navigation at TomTom said: “The city has experienced a major growth in population and employment, much of it in or near the city centre. In spite of investment in new road and rail infrastructure, busways and bikeways, congestion remains stubbornly high.”

Congestion peak levels in Dublin are at 88% in the morning and evenings where travel in the city is at its height.

The most congested city in the world was Mumbai in India followed by Bogota in Colombia and then Lima, Peru.
