Dublin ice cream shop offers 10 per cent discount for customers that order in Irish

An ice cream shop on Wicklow Street has offered a 10 per cent discount to all customers that order in Irish.

Murphy's handmade ice cream shop confirmed the rumours that were circulating on Twitter yesterday, also offering a discount for anyone that can help their staff pick up a cupla focal.

The discount is valid for the rest of the week with many Dubliners anxiously downloading the Duolingo app in the hopes of securing a cheap uachtar reoite.

They posted: "Word is out! As you may have seen on the RTE 6 and 9 O’Clock news last week, we are offering Irish lessons to any staff member that would like to learn the cupla focal.

"To help our staff on their Gaeilge journey, Murphys on Wicklow Street, Dublin, are giving a 10% discount for the rest of the week to anyone who orders tri Ghaeilge or can teach our staff an Irish phrase.

"Gaelgeoirs be gentle with us.

"Go raibh míle maith agat agus bain súp as!"

People praised the clever initiative in Dublin's city centre.

One person said: " Go hiontaach!"

Another said: "Any other businesses doing this??"
