Dublin hurlers aiming to break barren Croke Park run in Wexford clash

Dublin hurlers bid for their first win at Croke Park in four years as they face Wexford in this evening’s curtain raiser at GAA headquarters.

While the advantage that the Dublin footballers enjoy at the venue is beyond dispute, the hurlers have always been more at home in Parnell Park, where they enjoy a good record, but they’ve lost their last four games at Croke Park by a combined 45 points.

Their last outing there was in the 2018 League quarter-final against Tipperary, who beat them by 11 points. They had started the campaign with a 13-point reverse to Offaly on Jones’s Road.

Dublin’s last win there was in the League against Cork in 2016 and with Wexford riding high after a rousing victory over Kilkenny last Sunday and a number of front line players coming back into the fray, Davy Fitzgerald’s side look the safer bet in what is a good opportunity to banish ghosts from last year’s All-Ireland semi-final meltdown against Tipperary.

VERDICT:  Wexford
