Dublin hotel The White Moose Cafe lashes back at customer who called sign at front desk racist

A North Dublin cafe has lashed out at a customer who wrote an angry email over an allegedly racist sign.

The Charleville Lodge / White Moose Cafe have shared the woman's email while defending themselves over the board which sits at the front desk of the hotel.

The joke in question reads: "We have a new complaints manager, she is from the far east and her name is Wee Don Givafukk."

The sign has divided people with one woman taking to email to let owner Paul Stenson know her feelings on it.

The sign in question (White Moose Cafe)

She said: "I was really surprised and offended by your racist sign about the Far East right at your front desk. I won't be back.

"I'll do my best to post about it on social media.

"Hard to believe in this day and age that you think this is funny and appropriate for the first impression of your hotel."

Owner of the White Moose Cafe, Paul Stenson (Facebook)

Owner Paul blasted the woman back posting a screenshot of her message and insisting that the "vast majority" are OK with it.

He said: "I don’t believe that the sign at reception is racist, nor is it intended to be racist.

"It’s called humour. If the sign said “NO BLACKS ALLOWED”, that would be racist and indeed you’d have every right to be offended.

"The vast majority of people find the sign funny, maybe you should try to see the funny side too?

The woman sent an email complaining about the sign (White Moose Cafe)

"Whinging and moaning over a silly sign is not a sustainable strategy for your mental health. If you chose to laugh at the sign, rather than complain about it, you’d probably be a much more positive, and undoubtedly happier, person.

"It would also mean that you wouldn’t need to impose your miserableness on others around you, which is what you’ve sought to do by writing this email."

Stenson went on to thank the woman for posting it on her social medai - saying she's only helping him more.

He wrote: "I look forward to your posting about us on social media, as you’ll be giving our brand an even wider reach.

"Your friends who find the sign funny may even become customers of ours.

"The people who are offended like your good self will never set foot in our cafe which of course means our staff will never have to endure these whingebags.

"It’s a win win for all concerned."
