Dublin hotel prices skyrocket for Katie Taylor fight with week in Spain cheaper

Fans who want to watch Katie Taylor’s homecoming fight this summer and stay in Dublin after the bout had better start saving.

As well as paying up to €1,500 for the most expensive tickets to watch the Olympic gold medallist take on Chantelle Cameron, they face knockout hotel bills if they want to stay the night in the capital.

The Heineken Champions Cup also takes place in Dublin on the same day meaning thousands of rugby fans will be looking for hotel accommodation.

There is likely to be huge demand for tickets to watch the Wicklow fighter take on Cameron at the 3Arena on May 20.

She was originally booked to fight Amanda Serrano in a much-anticipated rematch, but Taylor’s long time rival was forced to pull out of the contest due to an injury.

But the fact that two massive sporting events are taking place on the same evening means there will be a massive demand for hotel beds which will drive up prices.

In a survey yesterday the Irish Sunday Mirror could not find just one hotel anywhere near the 3Arena charging less €400 for a single room for one night.

And the bad news for those who have not already booked accommodation for that night is that there are few rooms available. That’s even at prices which would get you a week’s holiday in Spain.

The cheapest the Irish Sunday Mirror could find using popular search engine booking.com was The Gate Hotel in Parnell Square where a room for that night costs €396.

Next best was the Travelodge PLUS in Dublin city centre at €410 but, as of yesterday, there were just six rooms left at that price. The Spencer Hotel in Dublin’s trendy Docklands area was offering a room at €454.

The Staycity Aparthotels Dublin Castle had rooms at €500 while its sister the Staycity Mark Street was charging €573 for the one night.

The Hilton Garden Inn in Dublin City Centre had rooms available for €515 for May 20.

While a bed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Temple Bar would set you back €459 but there was only one room left at that price yesterday.

For those who are willing to go a little downmarket there is also hostel accommodation around the city but this is also pricey.

Tickets for the fight go on sale tomorrow with the cheapest coming in at €80 but these will be snapped up within minutes.

There are a range of other price bands on offer, with the most expensive ‘VIP’ seats going for €1,500.
