Locals were left disgusted after "vile" grafitti was daubed on the wall of a newly refurbished home in north Dublin that was intended for a migrant family.
The family, who have been homeless for six years and who have two young children, had been due to move into the house on Cappagh Road in Finglas on Monday.
But they left in tears after they arrived to find the words "Irish Only" daubed all over the walls, Dublin Live reports.
Local man Graham Dunne shared pictures of the "vile" vandalism on social media earlier this week.
He said: "Although I'm from an area that boasts such luminaries as Ronnie Whelan, Christy Dignam, Brendan O' Carroll, and of late, my old school friend Brian Brannigan of 'A Lazarus Soul', one can never quite brag about being from Finglas.
"This is what greeted a six years homeless immigrant family upon arrival to their new corporation home next door to my mother's on Monday. They left in tears."
Graham added: "The previous 'Irish' tenants caused my mother and the other neighbours no end of grief. Vile."
Locals condemned the sickening abuse.
One man said: "Very sad to see .. God knows how long they waited for that house to come up.
"That ad on the TV at the moment seeing a family having to move into a hotel is heartbreaking as is seeing our nationality being used in such a racial slur."
Another added: "The Irish have set up home in every corner of the world but dare anyone come to our country. Makes me feel sick."
Other slammed the "cretins" who vandalised the property while another woman said: "I remember seeing 'No Irish' signs as a youngster.
"We have a long history of helping the afflicted. Those poor immigrants have probably escaped from God knows what atrocities."
Dublin City Council told Dublin Live: "Dublin City Council is aware of this situation and a contractor has been assigned to remove the graffiti in question.
"It has proven difficult to remove it fully as it is on fresh dry dashing. The work is ongoing and will be fully completed by next week.
"The family who were offered the house have turned it down and we are in the process of offering them an alternative dwelling in the general area."
