Dublin home riddled with bullets after firework horror in Cabra

A house with two children inside was riddled with bullets in a ruthless gangland-style attack.

The shocking incident in Cabra, North Dublin, smashed the glass in the window of the front door.

A man and woman were also in the property but nobody was injured in the shooting.

A source said: “It is believed one of the occupants of the house is linked to the kid who injured his face with a firework which happened just a couple of metres up the road on Friday.

“One of the children lost an eye and the other injured a few fingers.”

The incident saw two youths, aged 17 and 15, receive serious injuries in the nearby Faussagh Avenue.

One was transported to the Mater Hospital while the other was taken to Temple Street Hospital.

Meanwhile, some of the residents in the area confused the late night gunshots for fireworks, describing the area as being “like Halloween most nights of the week”.

One told the Irish Mirror: “I thought it was fireworks. I didn’t even look out my window.

“It was only when I woke up on Monday morning and I saw Gardai that I realised it was a lot more serious.

A second resident added: “I was watching television at the time when I heard the shots across the road.

“I turned the television off and looked out my window but by that stage the people had cleared.”

Another told the Irish Mirror: “There’s no way you could mistake [the gunshots] for fireworks because they were so rapid and loud.

"As long as the children are OK, that’s the main thing. You can replace windows but not children. This is a nice family neighbourhood.

“We’re very lucky that innocent people didn’t get caught in the crossfire.”

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Cabra-Glasnevin councillor Cieran Perry condemned the shooting describing the whole ordeal as “shocking”.

He said: “Anyone who puts a child’s life at risk is the lowest of the low.

“It’s totally unacceptable and has shocked the area to its core.”

A Garda spokeswoman added: “Gardai are investigating an incident at a house in Cabra. Shots were fired at a house at approximately 11.45pm.

“Four occupants were in the house at the time. No injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.”
