Dublin had driest Spring since records began 170 years ago

Dublin has had its driest Spring since records began 170 years ago.

Met Eireann have released their Spring weather statement, and it shows that it was a very dry season overall for Leinster.

Overall, rainfall across Ireland was down from the long term average.

There were no very wet days at the Phoenix Park, and two other Dublin locations had their driest Spring on record (Dublin Airport and Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel).

Casement Aerodrome also had its highest Spring temperature in 56 years, recording 25.7C on May 28.

There were also 608.2 hours of sunshine recorded at Baldonnel, and the capital had its sunniest Spring on record.

Both Dublin Airport (78 years) and Casement Aerodrome (56 years) broke their record.

Yesterday, Met Eireann confirmed that Dublin had its sunniest May on record.

There were almost 300 hours of sunshine in the capital, the largest amount since records began 56 years ago.

The capital was also the driest county in the country, with the lowest total amount of rainfall in Ireland recorded in the Phoenix Park.
