Dublin good weather parking warning as motorists urged to remember emergency services

Crowds of people have flocked to Dublin's most scenic spots today as sun beams down on a beautiful day in the capital.

Ahead of the nice weekend, several warnings were issued about how quickly car parking spaces fill up in parks and tourist destinations in nice weather.

Now Dublin Fire Brigade has issued an important reminder to the public to remember to keep roads and pathways clear to ensure emergency services can reach crowd covered areas.

They shared an image taken in Ticknock today, where parked cars were blocking access for larger vehicles who may need to use the rural road.

They said: "Great day for the outdoors. Remember if you're parking up to leave space for the emergency services like the Dublin Wicklow Mountains Rescue Team. We need access 24/7 particularly if parks and trails are busy like today."

While garda carried out a checkpoint and said they turned a lot of people away who were outside their 5km.

They said: "Gardaí from Blackrock and Dundrum Community Policing conducted checkpoints this morning in Ticknock and Glencullen, Dublin. A large number of motorists and cyclists were sent home for being outside their 5km. Remember to stay safe and stay local while enjoying the good weather!"

Earlier this week, the Office of Public Works said it doesn’t want to see a repeat of last Sunday when the Phoenix Park was “extremely busy” - despite the threat of COVID and the stringent travel restrictions in place to battle the virus.

Large crowds visiting the famous Dublin park last weekend forced gardai to close the Chapelizod gates in a bid to stem the tide of people.

The Phoenix Park Twitter account advises people to "leave the car at home", where possible and ensure that parking spaces are left “for those who really need it.”

They took to social media to ask the public not to drive to the park and they advised them to visit outside of peak hours in order to prevent large crowds in the area during the pandemic.
