Dublin girl Lucy Smith, 5, tragically dies after brave battle with rare brain tumour

A little Dublin girl has sadly died following a brave battling a rare form of cancer.

Lucy Smith, five, from Clarehall in north Dublin was diagnosed with terminal cancer in August 2019 after she collapsed at home.

Her mum Sarah thought Lucy's symptoms may have been an allergy but after an emergency visit to Temple Street Children's Hospital, doctors delivered the bad news.

Her parents decided not to proceed with palliative radiotherapy treatment and brought her home to make the most of their time together.

Lucy's family rallied around her and supporters raised over €35,000 through a GoFundMe page to help her family care for her and their five other children.

Sadly, Lucy died in the arms of her parents on Friday, October 18.

A funeral notice on RIP.ie reads: "Peacefully, after a short illness in the arms of her loving parents.

"Lucy, cherished daughter to Sarah-Jane and Dwayne; she will be very sadly missed by her loving family, brothers Conor, Carter, Jacob, Theo, sister Abbie, grandmothers, grandfather, aunts, uncles, relatives and friends."

Lucy's funeral was held in St. Benedict’s Church, Grange Park on Monday morning with a cremation service afterwards in Dardistown Crematorium.
