Dublin Gardai offer kind gesture and help elderly woman fix her washing machine during lockdown

Gardai have been going above and beyond the call of duty to help our most vulnerable during the coronavirus crisis.

Cabra garda station tried helping an elderly woman over the phone who is ‘cocooning’ during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She called her local station due to an urgent problem with her washing machine.

When guiding her over the phone wouldn’t fix the problem, the kind-hearted gardai decided to take measures into their own hands.

They worked hard to find a way to ensure her cocooning was unaffected.

When they were sure they wouldn’t interfere, gardai went to her home to fix the machine by hand.

Thankfully in the end they managed to get it working again, saying “it was a twisted waste hose at the back of the machine.”

The gardai shared the story online with the hashtag #staysafestayathome, receiving a lot of praise from people online.

Philomena said: “Really going above and beyond lads. Thank you”, while Bernie added “That was a nice (thing) to do for the lady.”
