Dublin GAA training photos: Players blasted by former president as session images emerge

Former GAA president and current Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly has blasted Dublin GAA after players reportedly broke Covid-19 rules to take part in a training session on Wednesday morning.

The Irish Independent reports that at least nine players took part in the dawn session at a GAA pitch in North Dublin.

It came some 12 hours after GAA warned counties not to jeopardise plans to run both the League and Championship this summer by flouting the rules.

Among those snapped by the paper included footballer of the year Brian Fenton, Cormac Costello, Jonny Cooper and Brian Howard.

Ex-president Sean Kelly has said that players will have to be sanctioned in some form following the training session.

He said: "If it is true it is surprising and very disappointing, especially coming from the six in a row team. Such a successful team had a responsibility to lead by example.

"Every club and every county in the country are probably frustrated they can’t get back out on the field but there is a road map there. The GAA have outlined the guidelines and everyone will have to stick by them."

"The restrictions around groups of people gathering applied to every one. Whether you are All-Ireland champions or just at the bottom of the ladder.

"This is a serious situation and hopefully it was a once-off breach that won’t happen again because if it goes without some form of formal sanction then others will say 'why can’t we do the same?' It has created a very difficult dilemma for the GAA."
