Dublin GAA cancel all club games and training after new coronavirus measures are announced

Dublin GAA secretary John Costello has announced all club fixtures and training will be cancelled in the country until after March 29, forcing all Dublin clubs into effective lockdown - with similar measures expected to be taken throughout the country during the day.

In a press conference held today in Washington D.C. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar called for all outdoor gatherings of 500 people, and all indoor gatherings of 100 people, to be cancelled immediately.

In addition, all cultural spaces will be closed until March 29 from 6pm today, with many public and private buildings expected to follow suit as social distancing is encouraged.

"Clubs are advised to reduce social interactions as much as possible," Costello said.

"We will continue to monitor the situation, taking advice from the Government, HSE and GAA Central Council. Dublin GAA will provide updates accordingly."

'Club month' in the GAA is due to start in April, but today's announcement could see many county championships either pushed back or streamlined as the GAA deals with the public health crisis - and many more counties are expected to follow Dublin's lead.
