Dublin food: Drones could deliver takeaways in the capital by the end of this year

Drones could be dropping food all over Dublin by the end of the year as a company is hoping to get flight approval from the Irish Aviation Authority.

Irish tech start-up Manna have announced a partnership with Flipdish that could see over 1,000 restaurants provide the air drop service.

The drones are capable of flying more than 80km/h with most delivery times promised to be under three minutes.

The business has been working towards live testing and if they are successful in getting a licence from the IAA to fly, they could be lowering meals into people's homes before 2020.

Flipdish Chief Executive Conor McCarthy told The Irish Times that the drones could even save lives and reduce traffic.

He said: "Manna.aero’s drones will not only offer an amazing customer experience and increase restaurant profitability, they will also save lives by taking mopeds off the roads and reduce traffic and pollution.”
