Dublin firefighters warn of danger of fly-tipping after blaze

Dublin Fire Brigade has warned of the dangers of fly-tipping after being sent to douse a blaze in Lucan tonight (September 15) after waste was set alight.

Waste fires can be a particular hazard, and fly-tipped waste creates its own problems as it can throw off toxic fumes and be a considerable problem to the wellbeing of those in the vicinity of the blaze.

As well as looking and smelling bad, and attracting vermin, fly-tipped waste can also be used as fuel to start a deliberate fire. This puts an unnecessary drain on fire and rescue service resources when they could be attending other emergency calls.

Dublin firefighters later tweeted: "Unfortunately, unofficial door-to-door collections normally end up on fire like this. Use only licensed waste collectors to prevent fires like these."

To call Dublin Fire Brigade in any emergency dial 999 or 112.
