Dublin firefighters take water from Grand Canal to fight dangerous barge blaze

Dublin firefighters rushed to the Grand Canal in the early hours of this morning after receiving reports of a fire on a barge.

A team from South Dublin responded to the incident near Hazelhatch.

Firefighters from the Tallaght station had to take water from the canal to fight the dangerous blaze.

One person rescued themselves from the burning boat.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: " Firefighters from Tallaght extinguished a fire on a moored barge on the Grand Canal near Hazelhatch early this morning.

"One person self-rescued from the boat.

"Water was taken from the canal to supplement the water carried in the tank on the fire appliance."
