Dublin firefighters rush to tackle blaze at Capel Street after 'heavy smoke' visible in city centre

Firefighters rushed to Capel Street in Dublin city centre this afternoon after "heavy smoke" was seen in the area.

Shortly before 1pm on Sunday the official Dublin Fire Brigade Twitter account tweeted: "Four crew of firefighters are fighting a fire in a shed off Capel Street. "Smoke is visible in the area, but we have the situation under control."

Meanwhile, firefighters were also deployed to an adjacent building to prevent further fire spread. Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "Earlier, four fire engines including a turntable ladder responded to this fire off Capel Street."

Dublin Live understands that no injuries were reported in connection to the fire at Capel Street, which has now been extinguished. Smoke is still visible in the area around Capel Street and is expected to clear.

Images from the scene show plumes of smoke rising up into the sky above Capel Street, while brave DFB crews gathered to extinguish the blaze which was quickly brought under control.

So far it has been a very busy bank holiday weekend for firefighters, and on Saturday night two fire engines were called to a fire on a housing construction site in Clondalkin. The fire was prevented from damaging nearby silos and spreading any further.

Also on Saturday night, Dublin Fire Brigade attended a late night crash on the M50 between Firhouse and Ballinteer, which saw long delays for motorists before the crash was cleared. Dublin Live has contacted Dublin Fire Brigade for comment.
