Dublin firefighters rescue magpie stuck in a tree for two days

A magpie was rescued by the firefighters from the Dublin Fire Brigade after it got stuck in a tree for two days.

The DSCPA received a call about the bird that was caught by the leg to her nest at least 30 feet off the ground in Rathfarnham.

The animal charity reached out to the emergency service after their inspectors were unable to rescue to the magpie due to lack of necessary equipment.

Brave firefighters rescued the distressed bird which is now in the care of the charity’s vets.

DSPCA said in a Facebook post: “*HUGE* Thank you to Dublin fire brigade who attended a rescue of a bird caught by the leg in a tree for two days.

“When the DSPCA received the call this morning for a Magpie that was caught by the leg to her nest for two days it was quickly established that our inspectors did not have the necessary equipment to rescue her from a tree that was at least 30 foot high.

“Our inspectors contacted DFB who came out straight away and quickly climbed up and released her. The very distressed bird is now with our vets and we are hoping she will make a good recovery.

“Thank you also to the staff at the summer camp at the Educate together school Rathfarnham for contacting us and DFB who NEVER let us down!”
