Dublin Fire Brigade warns of dangers of motorway fires as car goes up in flames on M1

Dublin Fire Brigade were called to a northside motorway after a car went up in flames.

The scary incident happened on the M1 northbound, causing the road to close to traffic for a short time.

As a result of the fire, smoke was spreading and caused visibility problems for drivers.

Firefighters from the Swords and Balbriggan stations responded, and DFB reminded the public that motorways can be dangerous work places.

They said: "Firefighters from Swords and Balbriggan have extinguished a car on fire on the M1 Northbound this morning.

"The road was closed for a short time as smoke was affecting visibility for passing traffic. Live motorways can be a dangerous workplace for Firefighters."

Earlier today, the Baldonnel Road in south Dublin was blocked following a two car collision.

The Tallaght fire station, along with Dolphin's Barn and the Tallaght based National Ambulance Service attended the scene.
