Dublin Fire Brigade warn of electric blanket use as cold snap hits after blaze sends person to hospital

People are being warned to check their electric blankets as the weather becomes increasingly cold this winter.

Dublin Fire Brigade issued the alert after one person had a lucky escape overnight.

Firefighters attended the scene of a blaze that they believe was caused by an electric blanket.

One person was transferred to hospital with smoke inhalation but otherwise was unscathed in the fire.

The fire brigade is appealing for people to check for any damage or wear to their electric blankets and suggests that the items should be replaced if more than 10 years old.

Dublin Fire Brigade said on Wednesday: "Firefighters fought a fire overnight that is believed to have originated in an electric blanket.
