Dublin Fire Brigade warn against using illegal waste collectors after rubbish dumped and set alight in Portmarnock

Dublin Fire Brigade are warning Dubliners to check that waste collectors are legitimate after firefighters tackled a large blaze of dumped waste in Portmarnock overnight.

Dramatic images of the blaze posted to Twitter show the large pile of dumped waste alight, with firefighters dousing the flames with jets of water.

The blaze could easily have spread to nearby shrubbery and homes but firefighters quickly brought the large fire under control.

A similar incident occurred last week in Baldoyle, where firefighters battled a large illegal dump fire.

Dublin Fire Brigade issued a warning to use only licensed waste collectors.

They said: "Firefighters were called to a waste fire on Moyne Road, Portmarnock overnight.

"Unfortunately a lot of unofficial waste collections end up on fire like this. Use only licensed waste collectors."

People are reminded to dial 999 or 112 in an emergency.
