Dublin Fire Brigade urge swimmer safety as two bodies recovered from water in city centre and River Dodder

Swimmers have been urged to be careful when heading out alone after two people were sadly recovered from water in Dublin this weekend.

Dublin Fire Brigade have revealed that they were called to two water recoveries this weekend.

One was at George's Dock at the IFSC in the city centre while another was at the River Dodder.

If swimming on beaches, ensure that there is a lifeguard on duty for your own safety and that of others.

Dublin Fire Brigade said: "Take care around water this weekend. Never go swimming alone, and only swim on beaches that have lifeguards on duty.

"This weekend Firefighters have removed the bodies of two people from water in the IFSC and the River Dodder."

Yesterday, gardai confirmed they were "investigating all circumstances" surrounding the recovery of a body from George's Dock.

The man, age unknown, was recovered from the water just after 11am.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the recovery of a body from Georges Dock, Dublin 1 this morning, Saturday 18th July, 2020.

"At approximately 11.15am Gardaí and emergency services recovered the body of a male, age unknown, from the water. His body has since been removed from the scene and taken to Dublin City Morgue for post mortem.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
