Dublin Fire Brigade send warning to swimmers after rescuing man who jumped into Liffey

Dublin Fire Brigade crews rescued a man who jumped into the Liffey on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite the warm weather, the water in the river can reach as low as 11.5C in July, nearly 4C lower than the temperature needed to cause cold-water shock.

Luckily, crews from the DFB HQ, which is located less than a KM from the Liffey, as well as members of the Phibsborough unit were on hand to rescue the man from the water.

A spokesperson for the firefighters said: "On Wednesday, crews from HQ and Phibsborough rescued a male from the Liffey after he jumped in. Despite the warm weather the water is still very cold.

"Don’t be tempted to take a dip to cool off this Bank Holiday Weekend unless in designated areas."
