Dublin Fire Brigade's stark warning for campfires and barbecues as orange alert in place

Dublin Fire Brigade has issued a stark warning for campfires and barbecues as an orange alert is in place.

An orange fire warning was announced by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine as Ireland basks in dry weather and warmer temperatures.

The emergency services said that the majority of wildfires are either started deliberately or can be caused by "carelessness with barbecues and campfires".

A video shared by Dublin Fire Brigade last night showed thick clouds of smoke in the air as the crew from Dun Laoghaire Fire Station battled a vegetation fire.

People have been urged to dispose of their cigarettes carefully and avoid campfires.

The warning issued today on Twitter reads: "The majority of wildfires are started deliberately or by carelessness with barbecues and campfires.

"Fires like this are resource-intensive and extremely damaging to the environment and natural habitats. Please report fires in the open immediately.
