Dublin Fire Brigade rescue two from blaze as Francis Street closed and apartment block evacuated

Two people have been rescued from a city centre fire that saw an apartment block evacuated and a major street closed.

Dublin Fire Brigade raced to the scene near Francis Street shortly after 6am this morning.

The road remains closed after brave firefighters managed to rescue two people before continuing to battle the blaze.

DFB detailed the rescue efforts in a series of tweets.

They initially wrote: "Unit from Tara Street &D/barn are dealing with an apartment fire near Francis Street."

A later update confirmed the people had been rescued and the complex had been evacuated.

It read: "BA teams have rescued two persons from the apartment. BA teams are continuing to deal with the fire as the apartment block is evacuated."

The two casualties have been taken to hospital.

DFB said: "The fire in the apartment is now extinguished with two casualties taken to hospital."
