Dublin Fire Brigade issue warning as driver has lucky escape following horror smash

Dublin Fire Brigade have issued a warning to motorists after a driver had a lucky escape following a horror northside crash this morning.

The tireless frontline heroes shared pictures of a car that had been crushed on both sides after it hit a concrete post on the Skerries Road.

Luckily the driver escaped with only minor injuries but DFB urged motorists to be extra careful on the roads with heavy showers expected later today that may lead to hazardous driving conditions.

The road was temporarily blocked while brave firefighters and paramedics treated the casualty at the scene.

DFB said: "We've cleared the scene of a collision on the Skerries Road in Fingal.

"The road was temporarily blocked. Heavy showers today - surface water possible #DriveToArrive."

A spokeswoman for the Fire Brigade told Dublin Live: "Firefighter/Paramedics from Skerries and Swords fire stations responded to the scene.

"One person was treated for their injuries and transported to hospital by the National Ambulance Service. Their injuries are not life threatening."

Met Eireann has warned the capital could be hit by "thundery bursts" of rain later today.

The latest forecast reads: "Rather cloudy this morning with scattered outbreaks of rain, and possibly some thundery bursts.

"Showery rain will persist for a time this afternoon but with some sunny spells at times too.

"Becoming dry and sunny in most areas later. Warm with highest temperatures 21 to 23 degrees Celsius.

"Moderate southerly breezes will veer westerly and ease through the day."
