Dublin Fire Brigade issue stark environmental warning after tackling waste fire in Malahide

Dublin Fire Brigade are warning people to only use licensed waste collectors during the upcoming dry spell after firefighters tackled a large blaze of dumped waste and vegetation off the Malahide Road overnight.

Dramatic images of the blaze posted to Twitter show the large pile of dumped waste set alight along with vegetation, with firefighters dousing the flames with jets of water.

The blaze was quickly brought under control by firefighters at the scene.

A similar incident occurred last week in Portmarnock, where firefighters battled a large illegal dump fire.

Dublin Fire Brigade issued a warning to use only licensed waste collectors.

They said: "Firefighters extinguished waste and vegetation alight off the Malahide Road.

"These fires can spread to nearby property in dry conditions. Use only licensed waste collectors."

People are reminded to dial 999 or 112 in an emergency.
