Dublin Fire Brigade issue important warning about 'nuisance fires' after Clontarf sea rescue

Dublin Fire Brigade issued a serious warning about "nuisance fires" after the rescue of two people from the sea in Clontarf yesterday.

The DFB rescue operation was launched after two people got into difficulty in the water at the seafront, with footage of the incident showing Coast Guard vehicles and a helicopter also in attendance at the scene.

It's understood the pair were lying on an airbed and became stranded in the bay after the tide went out.

And it turns out one of the DFB crews that responded to the incident could have missed the call after they were sent to Sutton to put out a careless camp fire.

"Yesterday, firefighters from North Strand extinguished a fire in woodland in Sutton as a result of a camp fire," they said.

"The same crew were later involved in the rescue of two people from the sea in Clontarf.

"Nuisance fires can divert resources from life threatening emergencies."
