Dublin Fire Brigade honour those who died from Covid-19 during National Services Day ceremony

Dublin Fire Brigade honoured those who died from Covid-19 at a commemoration ceremony for National Services Day.

National Services Day remembers and celebrates the men and women that work on the frontline in Ireland.

Events took place across the country including a wreath laying ceremony in Collins Barracks, Dublin.

The efforts of all past members were remembered at the ceremony as well as those who died during the pandemic.

Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley laid a wreath during the commemoration ceremony.

Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "We were again honoured to take part in the #nationalservicesday Commemoration Ceremony in Collins' Barracks this afternoon.

"Chief Fire Officer Dennis Keeley was among those who laid a wreath to remember all those who have sadly passed away during the COVID19 epidemic."

The Lord Mayor, Alison Gilliland attended the ceremony and laid a wreath in Collins Barracks on behalf of the citizens of Dublin.

She tweeted: "It was an honour to attend, lay a wreath on behalf of the citizens of Dublin and speak at the #nationalservicesday ceremony this afternoon in Collins Barracks."

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation also commemorated frontline workers who died from or contracted the virus.

The ceremony was used to reflect on the great sacrifices made by nurses, midwives and healthcare workers.

The organisation tweeted: "Very proud to attend today's ceremony to commemorate frontline workers who died from or contracted Covid-19.

"The sacrifice and ongoing contributions of nurses, midwives and all healthcare workers must never be forgotten."
