Dublin Fire Brigade granddad sadly dies as tributes pour in for 'class act' worker

Dublin Fire Brigade members past and present are in mourning today following the news that one of their own has sadly died.

Paul O'Brien, a retired officer on the 'B' watch, died on Monday surrounded by his family at the Mater Hospital.

The Marino man and loving granddad is survived by his wife Anne and children Carl, Elaine and Claire who have been showered with love by the Dublin Fire Brigade family which Paul was still a part of until recently.

One colleague broke the news to other DFB workers on their social media page yesterday.

He said: "It is with a heavy heart that I have just heard of the passing of Paul O'Brien.

"Paul was a very good friend and had great wit - he was a very welcoming and kind person. He was always there for his family and friends and work mates, he will be sorely missed.

Others echoed this tribute with most extending their sympathies to the O'Brien family.

One member said: "RIP Paul. Had the pleasure of working with you in the old HQ.

Another added: "Paul was a gent to work with and great craic, may he rest in peace."

A third commented: "RIP Paul. A truly great character, condolences to the O'Brien family."

Funeral mass for Paul will be streamed live on Thursday 22 October at 10am on the Marino Parish website.
